It is a moderately volatile liquid that evaporates easily.
1,3-Butanediol is widely used as a solvent, plasticizer and coating ingredient.
It is also often used in the preparation of chemicals such as dyes, resins, fibers and plastics.
1,3-Butanediol is also used as a component of coolants and antifreezes for automotive cooling and heating systems.
Used in the production of plasticizers and unsaturated polyester resins. It can also be used as antimicrobial agent for cheese or meat, end base agent for oil-free alkyd resin and de-icing agent, humidifying agent and coupling agent in aviation industry.
1,3-Butanediol has low toxicity in general use and handling.
